"My job is to help a person live the life that THEY would like to live, not to judge or correct. In a perfect world, the folks we help would have whole villages behind them. Until then it is the job of the DSP to be that village. A “Be the change you want to see in the world” situation.
Now the second quote, it really demonstrates, in my opinion, the most CRUCIAL aspect of being a caregiver. Always be ready to be silly. Always be ready to help someone find their smile. Our jobs are hard enough without the added stress of full time seriousness. Our clients(in my experience) have more than enough super serious people before they meet their caregivers. We exist to help bridge the gap of ability, not personality, so have fun. If they are smiling, you, the DSP, are the one winning. So go out and win! Be silly, be caring, be THERE, and you will have success as a Caregiver."
